At the Art Student's League, Norman Rockwell enrolled in a class taught by the League's most prestigious teacher, George Bridgman. A taskmaster, Bridgman corrected student work on top of their own by redrawing a figure's central axis, action lines, and proportions to emphasize and clarify his points. "Occasionally," Rockwell wrote, "Mr. Bridgman would sketch the head, a muscle, the pelvis, on the side of my drawing to show me what he meant. I treasured those little sketches…"
