Four Sporting Boys - Baseball (Choosin Up) Signed Print

Norman Rockwell (1894-1978) Four Sporting Boys: Baseball (Choosin Up) from the Spring Four Seasons calendar illustration series for Brown and Bigelow, 1951. Limited edition signed artist proof measures 24.5" x 20" inches.

In 1977 Atelier Ettinger printed Baseball (Choosin Up), an eleven-color lithograph as part of the Four Sporting Boys portfolio. A total of 320 prints of this kind were produced. A set of 200 were numbered. Another set of 35 were A/P's numbered with Roman numerals. A set of 60 were unnumbered; another set of 25 were unnumbered and printed on Japon paper. All of the prints made were signed in pencil by Norman Rockwell.

When describing his calendar illustrations, Rockwell stated that "Each calendar is made up of four paintings, one for each season of the year. In most of the calendars I used the same characters in all four paintings; each painting showed them engaged in an activity appropriate to the season which it represented: four boys playing basketball, baseball, golf, and football."
